Place Patterns, 2018
Place Patterns is a long term cultural development project that seeks to develop a range of artistic responses to themes, data and demographics generated from the Wyndham 2040 Community Plan. The project invites local artists who are culturally diverse to create place-based responses to these themes. I am a Community Lead Artist for Place Patterns and my project was called 21+6+8=35.
The notion of being Home is often complicated; especially among the migrant community who tend to negotiate multiple identifications, of the sense of home, through collective or individual memory and re-creation. In this piece, I examine the relationship between individuals and their notion of Home. I look at it through the eyes of a diverse group of people – some of whom have lived in this place all their life and others who explain their migrant journeys through mathematical equations. Irrespective of their forbearance, there seems to be a shared recognition of normalcy, familiarity and assurance.
